Crate & Barrel is moving out of its Fulton Market space and into a redeveloped Marshall Field’s warehouse in Logan Square.
The retailer leased a 117,000 square feet at 4000 W. Diversey Avenue, according to news reported by Crain’s. The furniture and housewares seller will move its photo and video production unit this summer from the 64,000-square-foot space 240 N. Ashland Avenue.
Chicago-based Merit Partners owns the 1.5 million-square-foot, 90-year-old building, now called, The Fields. The mixed-use development was renovated in 2015 and still has about 300,000 square feet of office space to lease.
Commercial brokers, Cushman and Wakefield, hope to make The Fields similar to the Merchandise Mart or Groupon Building. The space currently offers 100,000 square feet of retail space that includes Cermak Fresh Market, other food services and is nearby to neighborhood restaurants and bars.
The building also a 50,000-square-foot rooftop terrace and a 30,000-square-foot event space. Employees can even bring their dogs to work and take a lap at the dog run. There are even plans to add 125 micro apartments too.
Not too many large office deals have gone down in the Logan Square neighborhood, Crain’s noted in their story. The only other major office move in the past decade was by Coyote Logistics, also into a renovated industrial building at 2545 W. Diversey Avenue.
